[One day, some day, he'll see the brighter side of Gotham. Today is not that day. Superboy is going to make sure today is a very bad day for the thugs who escaped from Arkham.

After taking care of a group where were ganging up on a lone police officer, he flies over to where Steph is and lands beside her.]

Where to now?

West Mercy. I'm sure the hospitals are taking it hard. [ And she doesn't want anyone taking the doctors hostage or some shit like that, dammit. ]

Okay, I can fly us over there. It shouldn't take too long. [Enjoying having sonic speeds again, though he won't go nearly that fast with her in tow.]

I'll show you the way. West, obviously. [ She'll just gather up her cape, because oops it's kind of unwieldy. ]

I figured as much. [Scoops her up into his arms and takes off flying.]

[ She points him in the right direction, having been there recently. It's where her mom works. ]

You watch the outside, I'll double check on the doctors?

[Sets her down on the ground once they arrive and then he kneels down. Touches the ground and his aura begins to spread across the pavement.]

Now that my powers are in full effect, I can make out everyone who is in the hospital. I can make out their positioning and their stress levels too, to see if any of them are in danger.

[ She keeps forgetting. ]

Anything out of the ordinary? Anyone in there holding a gun? [ Having a gun is very different from holding a gun. ]

[Takes his hand off of the ground and points up to the fourth floor.]

There's a group of criminals up there, five of them, stealing supplies. It looks like they have a couple of people at gun point.

Yeah, that's not gonna fly.

[ Sorry Superboy, she takes out her Grapnel gun before even thinking about getting a lift. In through the window she goes. ]

[Blink. Blink.]

Hey!

[Takes off and lands by the window a few seconds after her.]

[ She kicks the windows in, throws a smoke bomb. Utter chaos. ]

[hkewewe not so gracefully goes tumbling through the window after her. Picks himself up from the ground and tries to focus his t.k. to help him figure out who is in the room.

Uses it just in time to pick up someone raising their gun. Slides in front of Steph as the gunman begins to fire indiscriminantly. A few of the bullets bounce off of him harmlessly. Strips the thug of him his gun using his t.k. and then whacks him in the face with it.]

[ Steph's already out of the line of fire, rolling to come up behind another thug closer to her. She drops him with a well placed elbow and empties his ammo onto the floor. ]

Next time how about a warning? [Isn't paying as much attention, so he gets smacked upside the head with a crowbar. However, the crowbar bends when it comes in contact with his skull. Turns around and nails the guy across the jaw.]

I thought I gave you a warning. [ She's on to the next guy, who gets a knee to the stomach and an elbow to the back of the head. ]

Did I not give you a warning?

You already know the answer to that. [Watches her take out the guy and is impressed, but refuses to show it right away! Because he should still be annoyed for her taking off without a word.]

My bad. Next time, promise. [ And she shoves the unconscious thug at the final thug. ]

Good or else I'd have to take off next time without saying a word. [Grins at her and snags the weapon of the final thug after the other thug goes crashing into him.] Nice moves, by the way.

You're not bad yourself. [ She wipes her hands and opens the door for the hostages. ]

Go on, go on, nothing to see here.

What should we do about them? [Motions to the thugs and begins to dismantle the weapons so they won't be of any use to anyone.]

Drop 'em on the street, as close to any cops who might be around as we can. They'll know what to do with them.

Okay, I'll gift wrap them as well. [Picks up some random items made out of plastic and metal and stretches them out. Then he wraps them around the thugs so they are all stuck together. Levitates them off of the ground and over to the window]

The rest of the hospital should be clear.

You're the best.

[ She walks over to the broken window. ]

Let's check around outside, make sure it stays clear for a bit.

[Nods and moves over to the window. He pokes his head outside and spots a cop near by. The criminals are tossed over to the cop who is startled and then gets to work on shoving them into his car.]

I'd almost forgotten how much sharper my senses are when my powers are fully up and running. I can hear and see things so much clearer.

I'm sorry you ever had to lose them.

[ She grins at him, then pulls out a wire. ]

Let's get out of here.

Me too. [Grumbles for a minute but then he thinks about what she said when it comes to looking at the brighter side of things.]

At least I go them back when it counts, right? [Looks down at his communication device reading over Tim's instructions and then he looks at her.]

Lead the way.

[ And out goes the grapnel gun again. ]

Here's your warning.

[ And she's off. ]

[Quickly hops out the window after her.] Just wait until I figure out the layout of the city.

You still won't be able to keep up with me.

That sounds like a challenge.

More like a promise. Tim wants us at the Bowery. Up for some gang violence?

Noted. [Grins at her.] When you put it that way, how can I say no? Tim warned me about some of the thugs taking the Titan drug enhancer. If they have, leave them to me.

Won't catch me arguing there. I'll run distraction and interference.

[Grows more serious.] I know that you know what you're doing and have already proven as much, but be careful, okay?

Yeah yeah yeah. [ Sorry Supreboy, she doesn't really do 'careful'. ]

It's not like I've never taken on superpowered thugs twice my size before.

I don't doubt it. [Catches up with her.] It's just this place is really chaotic and dangerous...yeah, please?

I'll be careful. I promise. [ For whatever that's worth. ]

Thanks. [He'll take it, it's better than nothing! Once they arrive at the Bowery, he comes to a halt.] I'll scan for any of the big guys.

Get any structural weaknesses while you're at it.

[ She has explosives. ]

From what I can tell--LOOK OUT! [Doesn't get a chance to finish scanning the buildings surrounding them, because a titan infused thug goes barreling through a wall. The titan charges at Superboy and tackles him with enough momentum to carry them several yards away.

Several gang members step out through the opening that was created and look around. Their attention immediately shifts to Steph.]

[ Steph rolls out of the way and comes up facing the other gangsters with a grin. ]

What, having a party and you didn't invite us?

[ And then she springs into action amongst them, kicking men in the guts, tripping them, socking them in the jaw, and generally attacking three different people at any given time. Ohyes. ]

St--Batgirl! [Glances past the titan to check on her. Steph looks like she's having herself a grand old time. Any relief he feels is quickly washed away when the titan begins to pummel him in the face.

Ow.Ow.Ow.OW.

Okay, time to focus on himself because he's the one who is in trouble here. As the titan prepares to deliver a crushing blow, Superboy catches his fist and the ground beneath him shoots upwards to slam a pillar of rock into the titan's gut.]

You want my attention? You've got it!

I'm fine! [ She doesn't dare check on him because hello, outnumbered 6 to 1, but she trusts him. He can handle this. ]

These little boys are just amateurs.

[ Which was provocation enough for one to pull a gun, which promptly goes flying through the air far from anyone's reach. ]

Seriously? I mean really, seriously? What part of 'Batgirl' don't you guys understand?

[Knocks the titan off of him. Superboy is surprised by how nimble the creature is, despite it's size and weight. It charges at him a couple of more times and doesn't trip like he's expecting.

While he's duking it would with the creature, he can hear the titan's heartbeat go faster and faster.]

Stop! [Catches it by the fist and slams it into the ground.]

I think this guy's going to have a heart attack if he doesn't slow down!

Slow down, you say?

[ Three thugs down, she manages to turn and toss a batarang at the giant, which explodes with a mixture that produces a block of ice around the target. ]

That work?

Uh, yeah, that works just fine.

[The only being that looks more surprised than him is the titan. The look of surprise on his face turns into a grin.]

Light's out time for this guy and the rest of them.

[Thanks to the handy-dandy batarange, he has time to charge up a large concussive telekinesis blast. Nails the titan with enough force to break the ice and send him hurtling into the three remaining thugs. The titan lets out a massive groan before it goes unconscious.]

[ She lets out a long breath. ]

Think that's all of them?

I want to say yes but there's probably more around here somewhere. [Dusts himself off and moves over to her. Rests his hand on her shoulder and looks her over.]

How are you holding up? [Has a small grin on his face.] And yes, I'm aware that I'm the one who got pummeled in the face while you were taking those guys out.

I'm not worried, mister Invulnerable. I'm doing okay, mostly running on adrenaline. Could go for some coffee. [ She rolls her shoulder to work out a kink. ]

Where to next...?

I'm going to study the body of the thug who ingested the titan serum and then report what I find to Tim. You should get some rest because when that adrenaline goes poof...you're going to crash. Hard.

I promise there'll be coffee when you wake up.

Yeah, that's gonna happen. Is there even anywhere safe to sleep in this town?

We can find a place and if you guys exhaust yourself, you're not doing anyone any favors. Working on rest is more productive than working for longer times without rest.

Fine, fine. But help me find someplace to crash, could you? The details of this place are all wrong.

On it. [Places his hands on the ground and feels out the entire block. After a few minutes of focusing, he finds an abandoned house on the outskirts that looks like it has no activity around it.]

Found a place. I'll stay with you for awhile too, to make sure it stays vacant.

[ SIGH. She's going to have to actually sleep, isn't she. ]

I'll check it out and set up some precautions. Lead the way, Superboy.

[Correct.

Scoops her up in his arms again and carries her over to the house.]

What precautions do you want set up? I can do them if you let me know what you want done.

I need to know every escape route, every way in and out however improbable. And then I need motion activated bombs hidden in all of those places, and then I need this cloaky thingy Proxy gave me that's supposed to hide the signals or something.

[ Don't mind her she'll just be giving him a long overdue hug. ]

And I can give Tim, Dick, and Wanda a call to let them know where I am, what I'm doing, and what precautions I have set up in case they need me.

I can take care of all of the first stuff and then I'll clean up the neighborhood. If anyone is still lurking around, I'll make sure they don't want to step foot here again and they warn their friends not to either.

[Hugs her back tightly and lightly kisses her on the lips.]

I'll stay for another hour or so and then come back after a few hours.

Well I'm gonna have to help. Some of those escape routes are for me, you know. [ She gives him another, longer kiss. ]

And you promised me coffee.

Oh, right, that makes sense.

[Supeboy's mind is in "go,go,go" made. Begins to pull away but then stops when she kisses him. If it hadn't been for the kiss, he probably would have taken off to start scoping out exits.

Relaxes into the kiss and his thoughts slow down so they are no longer racing.]

Coffee has become the new Holy Grail. I won't return without it.

[ Mission accomplished. ]

You won't regret it.

[Grins at her.] I wonder what it says about my life when getting my girlfriend a cup of coffee is an adventure. [Waatches her reaction since up until this point, he's only referred to them as dating in her company and not used the title yet.]

[ Like this is totally standard procedure. ]

One day, some day, I need to see this place when it's not under siege.

Until then, do you want to go look for some escape routes and I'll get started on the other things? Alternatively, I could burrow underground and create a hidden shelter for you with a escape tunnel.

On it. And I'd really rather not be trapped underground in the event that someone decides to set off an earthquake.

Escape routes it is. Do you have any of those things you want me to use handy and how about we meet back up in about twenty minutes?

[ She pulls a handful from her utility belt and hands them over. ]

Put them out of sight, but right by the entrances. Press that little button on the side to activate. Press the button on the other side to deactivate it if you come back in that way.

Neat belt.

[Takes them from her and listens to her instructions. They are simple enough.]

Okay, I'll see you soon. [Plants a quick kiss on her forehead and then he's back into gogogomode and off he goes.]

[ And Steph takes a deep breath, harnessing the last of that adrenaline to find all the little hidey holes that Batman would used if he tried to sneak up on her. ]

[Finds some paper and draws a detailed map of everything he comes across. While he's not the world's greatest artist, he can visual things so clearly that it's like tracing. Gets everything set up and then returns at exactly twenty minutes.]

All done, here you go. [Hands her the map.]

[ Steph is half way inside an air vent. She hops out when she hears him. ]

Sorry, lost track of time. Guess I should give the others a call, huh?

You are nothing if not thorough. [Nods.] Yeah, let them know what's going on and I'll go set up a spot for you to sleep in.

I was just gonna curl up in a corner, but that works too.

[ COMM LINK POWERS, ACTIVATE. ]

You're not sleeping in a dirty corner. [Shakes his head at her and goes about fixing the couch up. Tracks down a couple of blankets, a pillow, and uses his t.k. to dust off the couch pillows.]

You sound like my mom. [ In a good way. She flashes him a little smile. ]

You're staying, right?

[Flashes her an amused look and takes a seat on the couch.]

Until you fall asleep. I'm going to take off for a few after that but I should be back by the time you wake up.

[ And, of course, in the interest of being a manipulative girlfriend, she flops down across the length of the couch on top of him. ]

Cool.

[Picks up the pillow he tacked down and slips the pillow beneath her head. Uses his t.k. to lift up the blankets and tug those over her.]

Now get some sleep.

[ She curls up facing him and closes her eyes. ]

Keep 'em safe for me.

I will. [Strokes her hair until she falls asleep. Once she does, he takes care of any lingering criminals. Then he takes off to get into all kinds of crime fighting shenanigans.

Whenever he does return, you can bet your bottom dollar he'll have coffee with him.]

[ And when she does pass out, she passes out so hard she doesn't even dream. She starts to stir when she hears movement. ]

[Check it out, Steph. Your boyfriend finally has some real clothes. He's wearing a pair of black pants, matching combat boots and a long sleeved army green shirt instead of his containment suit.]

Hey.

[Sets some coffee down in front of her as well as some Eggos.] I tried to find some waffles but I couldn't find any. [Sits down on the arm of the chair. He might not need sleep or food but he looks tired.]

[ She pulls herself up with only a very quiet groan. Sleep. Sleep is good. ]

You. You are the best boyfriend. Ever. [ And she starts chugging. ]

[Reaches over and brushes a few strands of hair out of her face.]

I am going to keep that quote handy for a rainy day.

[ She smiles groggily up at him, then sighs sadly. ]

Almost forgot where we were for a minute. Eggo? [ She sticks one in her mouth and offers the other to him. ]

[Shakes his head.] No, thanks. With my powers in full swing, I don't need any food or sleep.

Though I could use a breather. [Stretches his arms.] I can't believe everything that I've seen and done these past couple of weeks. It's hard to believe only a few months ago I only saw the world through a glass.

You've done good work here. [ But she's taken too much time off already. She starts going around deactivating her warning system and erasing all traces of them being there, still with that eggo sticking out of her mouth. ]

I'm gonna sleep a whole day when we get back.

Don't forget to chew. [Smirks as he catches the eggo dangling out of her mouth. He had already deactivated all of the security devices and traps he set up earlier, he lets her take care of the whole vanishing without a trace aspect.]

You and half of the Barge.

And thanks. [His smirk turns into a smile.] It feels really...good to be able to use my powers in this way. Helping people rather than destroying things or hunting people down. [For the most part, anyway.]

We'll call it a vacation. Should make the load lighter in the cafeteria, at least.

[ She appears to be chewing now, as the eggo shrink away into her mouth. This is a long mastered skill. ]

Helping people for the sake of helping people is nice. Makes you feel good about yourself.

Silver lining, right? [Gets up from the couch and peeks out the window, through the curtains.]

It does. There are a lot of people who need help too. On the plus side, I do think our arrival here has helped out quite a bit.

[ ALL DONE NOW. ]

I can't help but wonders what happens when we leave.

They'll find a way. The Gotham you knew started to recover from that gang war. If we can take out most of the big-bads while we're here, I suspect the same will be true of this city. Not to mention they don't know where they came from or that you're not the Batgirl of this city. The reenforcements probably has them panicking.

It's just. I checked on my mom, and the others. Nobody knows where they went. What if they aren't coming back?

[Gently.] She's like your mom but she isn't your mom. If they aren't coming back then they've probably found a new home to live in. I can't say I blame them, not everyone can do what you guys do.

It's not just her! Dick, Babs, Tim... if they've given up, I don't know if Gotham can survive.

The city might not survive but the people in it can. They can find a new, safer place to live. [It doesn't make much sense to him that anyone would even want to live in this place to begin with. Though he suspects if had actually had a childhood and grown up in a place he called home, he'd have a better understanding.]

Yeah. [ She takes a deep breath. ]

Yeah. We just have to get as many people out as we can. [ Because she suspects, if they aren't coming back? It's because they're dead. ]

[Moves over to her and gently cups her face in his hands.] You've already done a lot of good and we'll do a lot more good before we leave. I wouldn't be surprised if all of our combined efforts get everyone out.

[ She gives him a small but genuine smile. ]

Then we'd better get to it, huh?

[Kisses her for several long seconds before he steps away and heads to the door.]

Let's. Now that you've had your coffee, I bet you're ready to take on the world. [Grins at her.]

[ She grins back. ]

[The Finally is implied but. It's been such a long time. In the background even of his audio post there's the sound of people talking and animated.]
