ichoosefight: (I did good right?)
[ Video ]

[ Steph smiles a touch sadly at the camera, though there's a great amount of relief in her face for those who care to look for it. She's been here for a long time, made a lot of friends, and supposedly helped a lot of people, but it's worn on her something awful. ]

So, Kon and I have talked it over [ she should really start calling him Caleb, but she's so good with secret IDs she isn't really worried ] and I'm headed home. In about... two hours. It wouldn't be fair to stay, anyway. I couldn't promise my next inmate I'd be there until they graduated.

[ She shrugs, like this isn't something she had worried over for months. ]

I can't really say it's been fun, but I've met a lot of great people here and seen a lot of not-so-great people make incredible changes in their lives. I wish you all the best of luck.

I've got some... letters for a few of you. And if anyone gets home to find a wedding invitation in their mailbox, don't be too surprised. We'll find a way to get you there. I'll be in touch.

[ooc | Warden friends of Steph's and Kon's will get a hand-made invitation suggesting they ask the Admiral to let them attend the wedding while also assuring them that the couple understands if they feel that they can't. Inmate friends may find invitations back home. The following people get invitations as well as a drawing of Steph and the recipient hanging out or doing something silly: Lua, Doyle, Selina, Aya, Babs, Cass, Claire, Chris, Megamind, and Dean. This exchange can be played out or she can slip it under their doors. ]

[ Steph sits at her desk, as usual when she makes video posts. She's been affected by the flood, but she doesn't look particularly different. She's always been very good at hiding her scars, and although her clothes cover most of them she has makeup over one slash across her cheek. Dodged a bullet - literally. ]

You know what I don't understand? I mean, it's probably a human nature thing - sorry, sentient being nature. Whenever there's a flood we all climb on top of each other trying to figure out what it is. But either someone's affected and they know it and they can tell us flat out, or they don't know it and there's no way to figure out what's different until after. So, if there's no obvious danger, why bother? Now don't get me wrong, I'm the curious cat incarnate, it just seems kinda silly in the grand scheme of things, doesn't it?

[ She shrugs. Food for thought. Then she turns the video to private. ]

[ Private to Doyle ]

How goes it, inmate mine? Still in your own skin? [ Doyle's always been a bit dour, but Steph counters it with high spirits, good humor and a stern tone, even when he does something wrong. It seems to work better for her than sinking to his level of spookiness. ]

[ Private to Jon ]

Hey lover, I haven't seen you all day. What have you been up to?

Hey! Kon and I are back from our trip.

[ And from the bounce to her step and the light in her face, it did everything she needed it to and more. Steph is completely refreshed and ready to face the world. ]

I know we didn’t make a ton of noise about leaving, but here we are! [ They told the people who really mattered, and anyone else could have found out if they asked. ] What’d we miss?

[ Warden Filter ]

And did we decide what to do about Toshiko?

[ Private to Friends ]

We brought presents! Mostly really cheap presents, but Paris is expensive.

[ Private to K ]

Hey. I have an idea and I need your help.
ichoosefight: (🌹 the girl can talk)
[ Steph begins the video feed like she always does it, with the camera displaying her face and a few cute doodles in the background. But once she starts talking she just keeps going and the stream of words doesn’t seem to stop. Her hands move in time to the words but not with any logic, like she’s only half-feeling the effect of her words and it’s just a token expressive effort. ]

I hear people arguing over who’s a good guy and who’s a bad guy and who deserves to be a warden and who doesn’t and all it does is remind me how much I really hate this place. Because it doesn’t matter, what’s right and wrong doesn’t matter and we can’t do anything about it. Some people are wardens and some people are inmates and everybody wants some definitive reason but there just isn’t one. I feel like a Roman doctor, trying to kill bacteria that don’t even have names yet and just covering everyone in leeches.

[ A pause. A very brief pause, in which she considers that last statement. And then it begins again. ]

Did the Romans cover people in leeches? I don’t remember. It’s been a while since I’ve had a history class. And that’s another thing I hate, I used to be okay with taking a vacation and turning in the homework that’s been sitting in my desk for months but now I’m too scared to. People leave and they don’t come back, or they come back different, or someone else comes back instead and you lose everything because you just wanted to get a grade on your psych paper already.

So it’s all or nothing, and I’m stuck here because I care too much to just up and leave even though the system is stupid and some of you are really awful and people I care about keep getting hurt.

[ A sigh, and she ends on a bitter note: ]

Whoever said it first was right. I must be crazy.
ichoosefight: (sneaky ninja stuff... in a dress)
[ Stephanie Gordon has been applying to schools for the last several months. At the age of 18 her high school days are almost over and it would seem she has a bright future ahead of her in journalism or some such thing. She's starting to get interviews, but she's not too happy with her prospects at the moment. In fact, she's already considering widening the net and trying places even further away from home. Why, you ask? ]

I swear, if I hear one more person tell me I would be happier in an all girls school I'm gonna break somebody's nose. Yes, I might be, but it's the principle of the thing, you know? It's not like I didn't apply to any.

[ She just got back from a college interview. She's pretty sure she didn't get in, but she may as well make a point while she's all dolled up. ]

Speaking of which, has anyone heard anything about the Times scholarship? I was supposed to hear from them some time this week, but I guess the letter could have gotten lost in the mail.

[ She huffs, glances away from the screen and tucks a stray hair into place out of her eyes. ]

Anyway, how is everybody? Ready for the weekend?
