10 - SPAM for Tim Drake - Autumn days

[ It's cold out, but not freezing. Stephanie has left the safety of the library, the CES, even stopped stalking the Master long enough to stand on deck, leaning against the rail and breathing in the autumn air. Because that's what it is; autumn air. She's missed it. She hates to admit it, but she misses home. She misses going to school and fighting crime with Oracle and Proxy on the other end of a comm link, and sometimes she even misses the weather. What she really wants is a cup of hot cider, but for now the rustling of leaves and cold air on her skin are plenty. She really needs to get up on deck more often. She's happier than she's been in a long while. Not as happy as she was in the carnival, but close, and it seems like nothing could possibly dampen her mood. ]

[Friends totally go to pubs together. It's definitely normal and not chaperon-y at all. Right? Whatever, he opens the door and holds it for her.]

Uh, thanks. [ Still just. A little weirded out by this. But she'll head to the bar without really paying attention to the other people there, and try pathetically to get the barkeep's attention. He's a little busy at the moment. ]

[It's weird. But. He's trying to convince himself it isn't.] See any behind the bar?

[ She tries to lean over the bar and see, but she doesn't really know what she's looking for. ]

I dunno, what do bottles of apple cider look like? I've only ever gotten jugs.

[He leaned forward to look, too, and snorted, shrugging.] I...have no idea. Anything with a big apple?

Um... sort of like that? [ She points at a bottle with something that certainly looks like an apple on it. ]

[Hopefully it isn't apple vodka or something. He leans over the bar to grab the bottle, settling it on the table top when he straightens.] Try it?

Are we allowed to do that?

It's not like there's any currency on board.

Yeah, but we're not legal. What if it's alcoholic? Does anyone care?

[He's actually blinking at that, and looking around.] No, no one cares. We're probably the youngest on board. Besides, if it's alcoholic, do you want it?

No. [ Perhaps a little more adamant than necessary. ]

Why don't you try it? If it isn't cider, it probably tastes gross.

[Maybe, but he'll ignore that.] Exactly. So if it's alcoholic, don't drink it.

[Fff. He's rolling his eyes, and leaning over the bar again to find a glass. He opens the bottle and pours a little bit in, and tastes it.] It's not bad.

Sure, but is it apple cider? [ She's watching in amusement and a little suspiciously. ]

[It's totally apple cider, but he's gonna tease.] I don't know, it's been so long since I've had any. Here, you try.

You're a jerk cute. [ UHH sure let's go with that. Enter sarcastic voice. ] Real cute.

[ She grabs a glass, pretty sure he wouldn't be trying to feed her alcohol, and tries some. ]

Not half bad. Where can we get our hands on a microwave and a couple of mugs? [ Oh, uh. That was presumptuous, wasn't it. ] I mean, assuming you want some too.

[He snorted, but didn't look at her.] Yeah, uh. I'll have some. Hang on. [He rooted around for some mugs, holding them out triumphantly.]

A fine piece of detective work, there. [ Huh. Normalcy. This is. Actually kind of nice. She fills up her own mug only, in case he doesn't want as much as she does. ]

Trained by the World's Greatest, [he said, smiling a little crookedly at the nostalgia. He really liked saying that when he was younger. It gave him bragging rights. And he poured some into his own mug, only about half way.]

[ Right, that. She still hasn't asked him how he's doing. She's so out of the loop it's hysterical. But... maybe she should ask later. ]

Microwave?

[Yes, later, when things are less kind of nice. Tim just looks around for a bit, before he spots it around the corner of the bar.] There. I'll take them. [He held out his hand for her mug.]

[ She hands it over with a little smile. ] Thanks.

[ And she'll just. Twiddle her thumbs and try not to punch the guy sitting just next to her at the bar, drunk off his ass. And maybe inch away a little bit. ]

[Deep, calming breaths, Steph. He's only gone a couple minutes before he brings the mugs back and sits next to her.] So. Hot apple cider, and leaves falling on deck. [Small talk, he can do this.] Almost like a normal autumn.

[ She takes a small sip before laughing at that. ] Sure. All we're missing is doped up teens and a kidnapping plot.

[He snorts.] I was thinking the same thing. There's always something.
