I'm scared of him, but I ain't, like, terrified. There's different levels of scared, you know?

Why not? I think there's always a big difference no matter what. If I was terrified of Alfie I'd avoid him all the time; I wouldn't ever talk to him.

How about giving people respect for being people?

Well, like... Arthas scares me. I know he wouldn't hesitate to kill me if I looked at him the wrong way. So I know if I fight him I'm gonna use lethal force, because if I don't I'll probably die. Same with Dean these days, actually.

People like Alfie, I figure, he'd probably kill me if he thought about it beforehand, but he probably doesn't go into a fight looking to kill someone. So I'd disarm him and incapacitate him, no big.

People like you, who I know don't want to kill me, are less of a threat. I know you'd beat the crap out of me if you had to, but I'd focus mostly on defense, incapacitate you if it went on too long.

So I'm not scared of you or Alfie, I just make it a point not to make myself a target for no reason.

And if you're scared of more than one person, you really ain't more scared of some than others? It's just, like... scared or not scared? All or nothing?

Then I'd run away, or I'd die. That's just, it's my job. It's what I do. I get in fights with people who are probably going to kill me.

I'm on a boat with a bunch of career criminals with barely restricted access to a variety of weapons that could probably take out a military base if they really wanted to. They blew up half the ship just this week. All things considered I think I'm handling it pretty well.

I had to jump through a dozen hoops to get any kind of respect. Some of them literal. Some of them literally on fire. I don't see why I should give it out for free.

No, 'cause it wasn't right that people didn't respect me, and I don't wanna do that to other people. Especially not inmates, who've got enough shit to deal with. They're getting disrespected just by being here.

A lot of the wardens are here 'cause they fucked something up at home and want to fix it. Are they always suspect too?

Wardens are here because we were hired to do a job. I trust them about as much as I trust a server to not spit in my coffee.
