50 - Video - She actually planned this one ahead

[ Voice, Warden Filter ]

I'm getting ready for our weekly Warden report, and it occurs to me that we end up skipping a week or two pretty often. I think we fill in the gaps pretty well through word of mouth, but it's hard when you have to make up for a month of missed reports, and it's happened more than once.

So out of curiosity, who keeps daily files? Or any kind of consistent files, I suppose. Just so we know who's in the know.

Brilliant.

{Holmes, ever the perfect host--well, today the perfect host, for his lady guest, has a pot of tea ready on his table, and is picking through his notes. He's attempting to sort the neglected pile, though his system is complicated and for reasons he can't fathom...he doesn't remember what it is. Everything is dated, at least.}

[ Steph knocks lightly on the door, both of her diaries in hand. One for record keeping, the other for more personal things. ]

{Graciously, Holmes opens the door for her, stepping aside to allow her entry.} Would you care for some tea, perhaps?

Maybe once we figure out what's going on. [ She enters the room, obviously completely distracted by the pile of papers he was looking at. ]

What have you found so far?

Spamalot {Ha ha, that icon.}

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
{Holmes walks over to the table where the service is, where his own cup sits. He speaks before taking a sip of it.} Within the notes themselves I see few inconsistencies, though I did noe that...of late I have taken fewer than previous weeks and months, and there is no event to account for that, even taking into consideration recent...regressions.

Spamalot {I keep it for the keywords x3}

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
How long is 'of late'?

Spamalot {Ha ha! Now it's even funnier!}

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
It began five days ago, with the beginning of the flood. However, upon the recession of the waters as it were, my observations and notes are considerably sparse. To that end, {He puts down the teacup,} I am certain there is more than I should have recorded, yet cannot recall either what it was or why I did not put it to paper. Most perplexing.

{Holmes looks at the papers in thought.}

If there had not been an announcement and subsequent physical proof, one might believe the waters had not in fact left the ship.

[ She finally moves over to take a look at the files, but she has some trouble making sense of them. Mostly she's comparing dates and names. ]

What about Adam?

Spamalot

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
{Truth be told, he's been having trouble following them himself recently.}

Adam, yes, I have my observations on him collected...{And he pulls an index off the shelf, but doesn't open it.} No, this one is too early. He arrived...{pulls down another, actually flips through it.} I am certain that it was noted in here. {Weren't they?}

There should still be the file.

{Excuse him while he makes a mess of his filing cabinet.}

Spamalot

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Give me a month, I'll help you look.

[ Although she's beginning to suspect they might not be able to name a month. ]

Spamalot

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
{It might just take a month to look through his files, ha ha.}

This cabinet {And it's its own cabinet, five drawers tall by two wide, though not necessarily full} is solely that written aboard this ship. Only miscellaneous items are sorted by date, and our friend has not been suspicious enough to warrant notation elsewhere. {But...that isn't right. No one is above reproach, especially not here. Why...}

{But before he get lost in his existential quandary, he pulls out about four folders, the most recently sorted notes and asks idly,} Do you speak French?

Spamalot

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Not even a little bit. Don't you keep track of arrivals? Would that be in this cabinet?

Spamalot

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
A date I would keep an one of the indices. An index, which might I remind, he does not seem to be in. Permanent, unchanging facts are kept there. I have only started two since my arrival. I suppose I might check the first.

{But before starting back to the shelf, he hands her a file, dropping the others on the table.} I believe you will have the easiest time with that one.

{There is still likely to be some French. It was something of a first language.}

Spamalot

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Right. Thanks.

[ She starts flipping through, but she doesn't really know what she's looking for. ]

So you haven't found his name anywhere in your files yet?

Spamalot

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
He is curiously absent. {Flipping through his index, trying under those associated with him, when he realises...he can't name a single associate of Mr. Adam.} An upstanding man, perhaps, and yet there should be some note. I would consider them stolen had I not the utmost faith in my door lock.

Spamalot

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
That seems to be the general pattern.

[ She keeps flipping though, in the mild hope that she'll find something that clicks. So far, not much does. ]

Spamalot

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Then I am even less inclined to believe that notes have been stolen if such records are missing all over the ship. {Even in times of distress, Holmes makes time for his drawn-out, over-dramatic rolled 'r's.} There is no mention of him in either index. I would have only neglected to add him were I incapacitated for the time around his arrival.

Spamalot

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
So he's missing in records all over the place. Theories?

Spamalot

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Theories, in a place such as this.

{He considers.}

While it wouldn't be out of the question for myself to incapacitated and miss his arrival, it is hardly an event that would be missed were we all to have been so indisposed. Perhaps it was an unseen affect of the last flood.

{Still thinking, but quietly. He might be a while.}

Spamalot

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
So you think it's more likely our memories are the problem than our files?

Spamalot

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
My notes are complicated, scattered, and precise. To completely remove an individual would require more than theft--and that you say there are similar issues. I cannot remember why I did not write down his arrival, nor can I remember which day it was. It might be within me to forget one of these things, but hardly both. It is troubling, no matter the cause.

Spamalot

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
We'll have to look further into it. And at some point we're going to have to start making assumptions to work with.

[ She sighs, now more riffling through the files than actually trying to read them. No mention of any Adam, and no names she doesn't recognize. ]

Spamalot

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Bah, assumptions. {He says as though it is a personal insult. He walks over to the table, starting to look through the files he left there.} It is far more prudent to find the proper questions, are there no notes because we have all been affected to never have made them, or because there has been little to note? Barring the possibility, however remote, that they were stolen and our recollections regarding them erased.

Spamalot

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
Questions are great, but at some point we're going to need to do something about this. I'm talking to somebody about finding a psychic to poke around in our brains, see what's going on that way. Better than empty speculation, at least.

Spamalot

[identity profile] so-meretricious.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
{Holmes gestures dismissively, with a forced smile—where normally he'd have been irritated.} A case that lies sufficiently outside my realm of experience.
