It's really no trouble at all. Did something happen, or is this one of those Barge Comas I've heard about?

[ She just shrugs. ]

Looks like a barge coma. I have a distinctive lack of other symptoms.

[Worried frown, and she hands Steph the coffee.]

It's such an odd phenomenon. Has anyone ever tried to figure out why they happen?

It really is. I can only blame the Admiral.

...People do that a lot, I've noticed.

Try to figure it out? Or go into comas?

[ She smiles wryly. ]

[Smile.]

I ask myself every day if it's worth staying here. I don't see why he would fulfill our deals if this is how he behaves...

I'm lucky, I the only deal I made was that I not miss any school. It does wonders for my homework grades, actually...

[ But she makes that 'whatever' face, only one end of her mouth tightening into a frown. Her voice lowers, too, as though she were sharing a secret. ]

I think it's worth it to get the others out. To get the inmates out. They aren't here by choice, and I don't think they deserve to be imprisoned on this insane boat that's got to be less useful than a regular therapist.

They did have a chance to be good when they were alive.

[She looks ashamed to be saying this. :/]

It's not that I don't believe in the cause here, but ...my deal is very important to me. Someone I care about.

I understand. And I'm sorry, actually. That makes it harder to leave. It's more like a trap. But I still think they would be better off someplace less crazy.

But if I do all the work to redeem someone, and never get what I was promised, or, worse, die in a port or go into a coma and never wake up...

Then your next mission is to beat the crap out of the Admiral. Just don't die, okay?

[She smiles, and, after a moment of hesitation, puts her hand on Steph's arm briefly.

She's not used to physical contact. Dragons don't do it, too many scales and talons.]

[ Steph can tell this is a rather intimate moment for Chromie, so she tries to make her smile as reassuring as possible. ]

Hey, you're the one who brought me coffee. You ever need help starting a revolution, look me up.

[It meant a lot. Somehow.]

I will. And if you ever need more coffee, I'm always around.

[Sunny smile. It's a bit fake, but it always is.]

[ Steph's smile turns more sympathetic. She knows that smile. It's her smile, a lot of the time. ]

I'll have to pay you back for that more immediately.

Oh, don't worry about it. I like to make myself useful.

Catering to poor, post-comatose barge-victims? That's sweet.

Comas are fairly serious. They shouldn't just be dismissed, even if they happen often here.

True, but at the same time...

I wouldn't want to die from something lame like a coma.

Overall, I'd prefer to be alive, in general.

It's not so bad, sometimes. actually, it can be kind of nice to be dead for a while when you aren't actually dead. [ But for the love of God don't tell Tim she said that. ]

Not for real, they just... thought I was. [ Well actually saying that is kind of a downer. ]
